Dinner PhotoOver Christmas 2006, six of us gave up the usual comforts of Christmas and instead held a dinner party on Africa's highest, and quite cold, mountain.

Why did we do this? Well, we hoped it would be an adventure ... but there was a very serious side too. I wanted to raise as much money as possible for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The aim was to take with us all of the formalities of Christmas and hold a white tie dinner party - that's formal attire, table, chairs, three course meal, tablecloth and centrepiece, wine and port and all the trimmings. We intended to have dinner on Christmas Day at our advanced camp just below the summit. I also hoped, subject to conditions, to try and have a second dinner on the summit (at 19,300 ft) on Boxing Day.
